In the article, it states that the critic will usually describe the image in terms of its characteristics and what they see themselves in the image. The image that I have chosen has been taken at the
2008 Beijing Olympic Games, in August. It is of a United States elite athlete who was in the 2nd round heat of the 100m hurdles. These athletes train for this big event all their professional life, it is what they work towards, from the beginning of their professional career. From the hard days at training, to meetings and finally qualifying for the big event. I think most people would not recognize what sort of training goes into being the athlete that he was when he ran his race.
The other thing that this article seems to refer to a lot is the difference between the subject and subject matter. Subject matter is the photo itself, subject however is synonymous with the meaning and interpretation of the image. whether it be the athlete jumping over the hurdles of life, or whether it reflects how he has competed in the race of his career, as to where he has finished.
